Mother's Day 2026

Hi everyone,

Mother's Day this year has been tough. Both my Nanny and Granny died before Christmas so I wanted to make sure I was there for my mum and dad. We met the day before Mother's Day as my mum had already made plans to support some of the elderly ladies in the community who don't have families at the local community bingo on Mother's Day. We went to a clothes swap organised by her church in the afternoon and went to Pizza Express for dinner in the evening.

I wanted to make sure, she still knew that she was loved and appreciated. That we wouldn't forget her mum or my dad's mum and the love shared as a family. She is a very strong willed person and always looks out for others before herself. I'll never forget all the things she has done for me over the years.

I know there are people out there who miss their mums, who wish they were mums, who are motherly figures to friends children and more. I know how hard it can be without a child. I realised a little over a year or so ago, that it wouldn't happen for us naturally nor would it happen via adoption unless I passed a medical. Currently my asthma isn't stable enough for the medical. There are times where I shut off and go into my shell, but I have an amazing husband who gives me space, knows when to hug me especially when I cry and is there for me in those trying moments.

I also know what its like to be without a mum. My mother in law passed away a year before my husband and I got married. I miss her a lot, she was always by the phone, always put others needs before her own and looked gorgeous every time I saw her. When I first went with my husband to Manchester (where he's from), I remember being frozen in the house (wooden paned windows). Duncan had warned me about the cold weather and although I was prepared, I clearly wasn't prepared enough. His mum walked into the living room with a hot water bottle to warm her up, but in her gracious nature gave it to me to warm me up instead. I knew then and there, she was someone I could talk to about anything. She raised an incredible son and her attitude towards helping others is something that is very much instilled in us both to this day. I will never forget her and her amazing smile.

I know Mother's Day has passed now, but please look out for others at this time as it can be a difficult time no matter the circumstance.

I am lucky to have my husband and family around me. Some people aren't.
