Pancake Extravaganza/Disaster

Hi everyone,

I was a little embarrassed to post this post any sooner so do forgive me. Last night my husband comes home from work with an abundance of eggs and milk ready to make pancakes. I thought why not try making pancakes using cookie cutters for fun. It worked but I suggest greasing the cookie cutter first before using so that the pancake can be easily released and don't use plastic ones- my husband is an engineer so he wouldn't let me make such an error in the kitchen (laughs). So I had a little heart and a little star which I enjoyed to my hearts content. A little bit of love goes a long way.

It turns out, I made the batter too thick so I added more milk and it then was too runny. Sometimes you can't win with pancake batter. But adding two ladle spoons of batter into the pan made the consistency just right. Our first main pancake of the night ended up in two halves and looked like a double lung transplant had just taken place (ha ha).

We laughed about disaster number one and continued to make pancakes regardless of how they looked. They tasted delicious and that's all that counts. Then my husband tries to flip a pancake twice over but doesn't succeed and manages to poke holes in both pancakes. This is easily forgiven as I actually don't care what pancakes look like as long as they are yummy.

But in true spirit, he persisted and on the third try was very successful. An expert pancake flipper! Got to love him for trying. It's a shame that we didn't get flour everywhere as that would've been so funny and worth sending into 'You've Been Framed' for £250!

The second disaster is that I ate way too many pancakes..... cue heartburn at 3am! I am not as young as I used to be... A mug of milk and a dry biscuit later and I cursed the day I made pancakes.

Luckily we only really have to make them once a year. I do have them occasionally throughout the year but I let other people make them such as the lovely chefs at JD Weatherspoon who make American Style Pancakes with Buttermilk.

I had mine with lemon & sugar to start, Galaxy chocolate for main and some cheddar cheese for pud. Weird I know. Hubby had his with jam. Until I met my lovely husband, I had never known anyone to put jam on their pancakes. Each to their own.

Hope you had a lovely pancake day & valentine's day!
