A Reflection on Christmas 2022

As Christmas is upon us, I wonder what is it truly about? Presents? Time with family? Being at church on Christmas Day? Christmas is a time of giving and a time of celebrating- but the most important thing is that our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ was born. He was born in a stable in Bethlehem. He was born to save us all. He is the perfect image of God's love, peace, grace, mercy and of how God wants us to be and much more.

So while we are drinking mulled wine, eating gingerbread men, celebrating with family and more- let's remember the real reason for Christmas Day.

I think back to Christmas 2020- the first one that we've ever spent without our extended families- just our households. I couldn't understand it at the time, but I've now realised that I needed to celebrate Jesus' Birth- His coming more than the presents etc.

This year Lord, help us to seek your face first and glorify in your Son's Birth. Help us to understand the true meaning of Christmas and how it came about. In the moments where we feel sad or not ourselves because of maybe losing a loved one, not feeling the Christmas spirit maybe, I pray that you comfort us and give us peace in our hearts. However we feel this Christmas and coming new year, I pray that you will guide us on the path you have set out for us, show us your amazing love and that we would know you are always here for us and with us, even if we may drift away from you. Please show us the light ahead Lord, just like you did for the shepherds and 3 wise men, that we might know that you will always shine a light in the darkness.

Lord thank you for sending your son on earth to be with us and for the many things he has done in our lives and the lives of those in your word. Thank you for this wonderful season of Love, Joy and Peace.

Amen xx
