Hi everyone,

What a glorious day of sunshine hey? We've had a full week of sunshine here in Essex/London (Where we live has an Essex postcode but we're still within the London tube zones- weird right?)

When my lovely husband isn't at home working and I'm either doing housework, cooking or baking etc. I love listening to music via my Bluetooth speaker to make the task at hand more fun. I also listen to music when my husband works from home but via my headphones (and I try my hardest not to sing along when he is here.)

So I listen to a lot of music but mostly from the 50's-80's. I listen to the occasional song from the 90's and 200's forward but I am really picky on those decades. I am an 80's baby just (1989) and my parents have vinyl's from the 50's-80's. My dad has even amassed a collection of cassettes and cd's (old school I know- but you can't beat it) as well as an impressive collection of autobiographies and biographies of various artists past and present. This is where my love of music and my passion for performing arts started. Through my parents and over the years there has been many a person who I credit with influencing my music taste.

So here is a small list (there is so many songs I'm playing at the moment- I wouldn't want to bore you with a full list) of the songs I'm listening to at the moment.

  1. I'm in the Mood for Dancing- The Nolan's. This is one of my mum's favourite songs and whenever it's played at a family event such as a wedding, we are always up on the dancefloor.

  2. Sugar- Maroon 5. Got to love a bit of Maroon 5. The video for this song was actually filmed at various weddings across LA. It was actually inspired by the film 'Wedding Crashers' starring Vince Vaughn & Owen Wilson. Such a classic funny film.

  3. This will be an Everlasting Love- Natalie Cole. Natalie's voice is absolutely incredible! I can't help but sing along! Give it a go- see how it makes you feel.

  4. One Fine Day- The Chiffons. This song is great and it reminds me of a film I love. 'The Wedding Date' starring Debra Messing & Dermot Mulroney. There's a scene where the stags and hens play a game of rounders. It was actually filmed very close to where I grew up and where my parents still live. Parliament Hill Fields in Hampstead Heath. The view alone from Kite Hill is amazing- You can see the entirety of London. Definitely worth checking out if you haven't already been.

  5. Waiting for a Star to Fall- Boy Meets Girl. Another classic get up and go song to dance to. I always sing along to it and it makes me feel joyful. I'm also very lucky to have a great husband and this song reminds me of the love we have for each other too.

  6. You Make my Dreams Come True- Daryl Hall & John Oates. I love dancing to this song too. I actually first heard this song when watching 'The Wedding Singer'. There's a scene with Robbie, Julia, Holly and a few others in a cake shop trying wedding cake samples. It is an hilarious scene. I won't say why so as not to spoil it for those who haven't seen it but I will however leave this YouTube link here with a clip of that scene so we can all reminisce about it

  7. Do You Love Me- The Contours. I have loved this song ever since I saw 'Dirty Dancing'. It's a song that anyone can dance to whether you have dance experience/training or not. It's a popular song at weddings and birthdays. I love blaring it out of my Bluetooth speaker especially on Friday's after a week of blogging, writing and dealing with Asthma. So it will be on tonight!

  8. Rock Around the Clock- Bill Haley & His Comets. This song isn't just for dance competitions or even Strictly Come Dancing. It's one of the first songs my dad introduced to me as a kid and I have loved it ever since. if I ever renew my vows, this would be one of the songs I'd have played at the reception.

  9. Friday at the Dance- Michael English. One of my absolute favourite Irish songs to dance to. It really reminds me of my second home- Ireland- where my Dad is from. With my dad's family we try and get together as a whole family (I have family in England, Ireland, America and Australia) particularly if there's a big event going on such as a wedding, a big birthday etc. and when we do we love to dance and sing.

  10. The Irish Rover (live)- Nathan Carter. This song was originally recorded by a band called 'The Irish Rovers' in 1966 and I love the live version that Nathan Carter recorded back in 2017. The lyrics have varied over the years but the story remains the same. It is a pivotal song in Irish culture and history and well worth checking out.

Well that's our mini list of songs that I play whilst doing the housework, cooking or baking. Do you play music when you cook, bake, do housework etc.?

Whatever your weekend plans I hope you check out the above songs and have a good time.

Enjoy!
