This post is way overdue and I am so sorry! On Saturday 25th November 2023, I had the pleasure of accompanying my mum and sister to the Cake & Bake Show at Olympia London in Kensington. Olympia London is a small venue but the Ideal Home Show and the Eat & Drink Festival joined in as well. I've only ever managed to go to the Cake & Bake Show once before when it was held at Excel London. Outside the venue, there was a sleigh with reindeer and lots of snow where you could take a selfie or pictures of family etc. This was nice to see, as my mum and sister were running late (through no fault of their own) but it was made all the more magical by the lovely Kensington Choir (see video below). They are a four part harmony community choir who rehearse on Monday nights in Notting Hill. Don't be fooled by their description- you don't have to audition- they are ever so friendly and even let me write about them on the blog. Do check them out here https://www.instagram.com/kensingtonchoir/ if you're interested.
When my mum and sister arrived we couldn't wait to get inside and see what was in store. Of course it was decked to the nines with Christmas Décor and we absolutely fell in love. One of the first vendors we checked out were a company called 'Wix & Wax' who make the most amazing unique candles. In my family, we love candles. I had a lovely conversation with one of the owners complimenting them on how unique and fantastic their candles are. Seriously their candles could actually top the ones you tend to buy in the supermarkets or in Boots. They are relatively new to Instagram so do check them out here and give them some love and buy some of their candles! https://www.instagram.com/wixxandwaxx/
We also had the pleasure of meeting Julie Reilly from The Wedding Cake Emporium Limited who has designed wedding and celebration cakes we could only dream of. I was so impressed by her attention to detail and I was amazed at how the whole aesthetic of each cake was well thought of and catered to each client she has served. Here is her website where you can see how she started her career and how to get in touch with all your cake needs.
I always find it a pleasure to support local businesses or businesses just starting out from all over the UK. Events like the Cake & Bake Show/Ideal Home Show/Eat & Drink Festival are ideal to seek out new businesses but also new adventures tasting great food and gaining great tips as you go. Maybe the next time you need a cake to order or a gift for someone special, check out the businesses local to you that aren't a part of a chain and you'll see a bigger smile on your recipients face because it's more personalised that way.
Coming up- I met one of my favourite pastry chefs at the Eat & Drink Festival.... Can you guess who it is? Clue- We posted a picture of Lily and this person on our socials in November.....
Until next time,
Lily xx
The wonderful Kensington Choir with their rendition of 'Hark the Herald Angels Sing'- please do forgive the background noise- there were a lot of people!

One of Julie Reilly's masterpieces! What a fabulous, well detailed wedding cake!
