Hi everyone,

So Valentine's Day is around the corner and one thing that always crosses my mind is how many cheesy love songs there have been over the decades in music. From pop music to classical music, love is at the heart of some of them.

So here's our list this year:

In no particular order:

  1. Just The Way You Are by Bruno Mars- The video for this song is so lovely. It shows that Bruno loves his girlfriend in the video just the way she is (personality, looks etc.). My husband loves me just the way I am and I don't always wear make up etc. I am most happy in jeans and a hoodie at home or better yet Pj's! I often wonder why this song wasn't featured in the Bridget Jones films :)

  2. Love is All Around by Wet Wet Wet- An absolute classic. Some may say it's too cheesy but I think it's okay. Whenever I hear it though, I often think of Bill Nighy's version in Love Actually (Laughs).

  3. Kiss Me by Sixpence None The Richer- 'Kiss me, beneath the milky twilight. Lead me out on the moonlit floor. Lift your open hand, strike up the band and make the fireflies dance. Silver moon's sparkling, so, kiss me.' I do actually like this song. It's one you can dance to at weddings, parties and more. I think as a song it speaks of the first few dates with someone. Those butterfly type feelings you get, the get to know you sort of phase...

  4. Truly, Madly, Deeply by Savage Garden- There's mixed reviews on this one. I love it purely for its melody. It's an easy going love song and one that I'd happily listen to if it came up on Spotify, You-Tube, the radio etc.

  5. All My Life by K-Ci & JoJo- I first heard this song when I watched 'Save The Last Dance' with Julia Stiles and Sean Patrick Thomas. K-Ci & JoJo had a few of their songs featured in the film and this one in particular is lovely as the melody and lyrics really make sense of what love truly is. Also it shows that it doesn't take a lot to show your true feelings for someone.

  6. How Deep is Your Love by Bee Gees- Another of my favourites and I think often features on this list yearly? The lyrics alone make you think of love. I only like this version. Sometimes a classic is best not covered and in this instance How Deep is Your Love is one of those classics that haven't been covered well in my book.

  7. What a Wonderful World by Sam Cooke- I first heard this song in the film 'Hitch' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ee0svnLMwxg (Opening Credits just because the song is amazing!) and I absolutely fell in love with it from the word go so much so that I tried to persuade my husband it could be our first dance song. We didn't pick this one or any one for that matter (I'll explain more in another blog- laughs).

  8. All of Me by John Legend- ' 'Cause all of me, loves all of you. Loves your curves and all your edges, all your perfect imperfections. Give your all to me, I'll give my all to you. You're my end and my beginning, even when I lose I'm winning. 'Cause I give you all of me, and you give me all of you, oh-oh.' This one really gets me because like Just The Way You Are it challenges people perceptions of what people should look like, what their personality should be etc. and it shows the genuine love that John has for his wife regardless on her looks on a daily basis. Love isn't just us on the outside, the inside counts just as much, maybe even more.

  9. Bless The Broken Road by Rascal Flatts- I wish I had heard this song before I got married as it is so beautiful. The lyrics alone share just how amazing love can be and I love the fact that it starts with guitar. Guitar (especially acoustic guitar) really does make a love song seem real. It just moves you.

  10. Growing Old With You by Restless Road- Another song I wish I had heard before I got married but it only came out in 2023 and I got married in 2017.... Again the melody and lyrics warm my heart and it is a song I listen to often. https://youtu.be/27mJTDZKQY0?si=nuLkQn6pRhF8U_GP

  11. I Wasn't Expecting That by Jamie Lawson- It is a song commonly associated with the Pixar film 'Up' but wasn't actually in the film. Again it's another song that shows what true love is. Being there in every moment whether happy, sad, angry or lost. Being there for your partner whatever the cost and loving them regardless. That is something to hold onto. Not everyone is meant to find love in this regard but we still find love in lots of ways.

So that is our list of cheesy love songs. Some are cheesy and others are lovely. Do you have a cheesy love song? Is there a particular love/romantic song you love?
